Safe Mowing tips
The center for Childhood safety offers these tips for safe lawn mowing:
- Keep children and pets out of the yard while mowing
- Do a walk through of the area before mowing to clear the area of sticks and debris
- Wear clothing that offers protection, like sturdy shoes with non slip soles, eye protection like glasses, sunglasses or goggles while mowing
- Read the operating guide for your mower before operating.
- Do not cut the lawn when it’t raining, lightning or when grass was slippery
- Children should be at least 12 years old before operating equipment
- Never allow young children to ride alone on a riding mower
- Caution children to never place hands near power blades
- Do not clean grass exit with your hands
- Do not engage power blades on paved surfaces as there is no protection from thrown objects
- Make sure your mower is in good working condition at all times
- Do not operate your mower while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
